How to hull a walnut in 10 seconds or less

If you want to make your own black walnut powder or get to the delicious meat inside, you have to separate the green hull from the shell of a walnut. This can be an admittedly difficult, time consuming task– but not with my tried and true method of hulling black walnuts!

You will need:

  • 1 electrical conduit hanger with the screw removed. The one I use was purchased from Home Depot three years ago for $0.97
  • 1 mallet style hammer. I prefer rubber
  • 1 pair of gloves. VERY important

The methodology behind this task is very straightforward. Simply put on your gloves, place your walnut over the conduit hanger, wack it with you hammer, and pull the nut through the hole of the conduit hanger while simultaneously removing the hull. Visual learner? Check out the video below!
